Karen Hogensen, is a well traveled, freelance photographer (Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kenya, S. Africa, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Honduras and Guatemala). From 1992 to 1996 she traveled as the photographer for the Organization for Tropical Research into the jungles of Venezuela and Brazil. In 1998 she taught at Santa Reparata Graphic Art Centre in Florence, Italy, and in 2000 was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes grant for projects in Guatemala. Karen actively promotes the photographic medium through lectures and workshops and her own prints have been included in numerous exhibition spaces and magazines throughout the U.S. and South America. Currently, she teaches Art Appreciation and Photography at Palo Alto College, specializing in alternative processes. She has an M.F.A. degree in Photography from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
